Match Report

Fenerbahce vs Manchester City

An even game started quickly with both sides mounting spirited attacks in the opening exchanges. Each had scoring opportunities but it was PSG who made the first breakthrough, with Kingsley Coman showing impressive pace to sprint past the defence and calmly slot past Ersu.

Fenerbahcè’s passing game began to cause problems for the away side, and were it not for Maignan’s excellent save from a one on one the score would have been all square just minutes after the goal.

PSG also threatened throughout the remainder of the half, particularly through the pace of Coman, Pereira and right back Ikik. Despite chances for both sides the score at half-tome was just 1 – 0.

Ten minutes into the second half the deciding goal came after a composed finish from Ogenda, and left too much for the Turkish side to come back from. There was an air of contention to the goal as the ref failed to spot an injured PSG player, and while the Fenerbahcè defence seemed to hesitate, Ogenda continued playing having not noticed his injured team mate.

Fenerbahcè did continue to fight though and missed two clear cut opportunities within three minutes of each other. The first a free header poorly directed straight at the keeper and the second a volley from close range that went narrowly over.

The result leaves Paris St. Germain topping Group 2 with 6 points. For the group tables click here.
