The first English team in the 20th Century to achieve the Double and the first British side to lift a European trophy, Tottenham Hotspur have remained a consistently successful team, claiming a major trophy in each of the last six decades.
Due to the 'different opposition, level and tactics' involved, Tim Sherwood, the Club's Technical Coordinator, views The NextGen Series as a 'priority over any other Academy game.' He explains: 'This is our main focus as such an international tournament offers a great vehicle for players to make the transition to the First Team'.
This continued focus on top level football has resulted in world class stars such as Ledley King, Sol Campbell and Peter Crouch progressing from the Academy. More recent graduates include Jake Livermore, Steven Caulker and Andros Townsend, who are already excelling at professional level.
Sherwood has a wealth of talent to choose from and Spurs look to be one of the strongest teams competing. Yet he concludes, 'if we see potential in other teams we may try to bend their ear'.
