Jordi Vinyals' Barçelona side came from behind at the Mini Esatdi against NextGen debutants Anderlecht tonight with a late equaliser from Toni Sanabria, as each side took a point from their opening Group 1 match.
Anderlecht started their NextGen campaign well, and just 3 minutes in Bruno had beaten Ondoa only to see his shot come back off the post.
Barça’s first chance came on 11 minutes, Nando Quesada rounded off a nice move with a shot that went narrowly over and 10 minutes later, Sandro came close as he turned and shot from an Adama cross.
Soon after, Ebwelle forced a good save from the Belgian keeper as Barça upped the pace in search of an opener. Anderlecht however, looked dangerous themselves and continued to cause the home defence problems with numerous counter attacks, before both sides went in goalless at half time.
Sandro again came close after the break with a shot from the edge of the box and Adama Traoré, one of the most threatening Barçelona players all night, continued to trouble the Anderlecht defence down the wing. However as the hosts began to tire, De Bruyn led another fast counter which Kabasele finished well to take the lead in the 66th minute.
Vinyals brought on Toni Sanabira, Babunski and Enguene as he looked for the equaliser, but they found it hard to break through the Belgium side’s well organised defence.
With just 10 minutes left Enguene picked out Sanabria with a well placed pass, who then brought the teams level. Bruno then nearly doubled his tally when he broke clear with 2 minutes remaining, and were it not for the skilled Ondoa in goal, Anderlecht could have taken all 3 points.
Next Wednesday sees the other two sides in the group, Wolfsburg VFL and Tottenham Hotspur face each other at the VfL-Stadion am Elsterweg.
