Both sides came out fighting and it began as an end to end match, with little to choose between them. As the first half drew on Olympiacos began to become the more dominant, however couldn’t create any clear cut chances.
On the stroke of half time it was Marseille who produced the first real chance. A nicely worked move from the French midfield resulted in a dangerous ball cut across the box, but it somehow evaded everyone and the half ended 0 – 0.
The rain came down hard during the break leaving the sides with a sodden pitch for the second period. This led to a different type of half, with fast paced football resulting in rash challenges and long shots. This style of play favoured Marseille who had been struggling in the first forty-five minutes. Unfortunately neither side could find the net and it ended up being an important away point for Olympiacos.
