This Wednesday Group 1 leaders Barcelona, fly to Belgium to take on Anderlecht in their fourth group match.
Both teams faced each other in August at the Mini Estadi where the honours were even; click here for the match report and photos. Anderlecht did well away from home, and are the only side to have scored or taken a point from the Spanish giants this year.
The Belgian side, whose academy has produced stars such as Vincent Kompany and Romelu Lukaku, were then unfortunate to lose their next game 2 – 1 to Wolfsburg. They hit the woodwork twice in the closing stages as they pushed for an equaliser in front of a passionate home crowd, but could only get one past the well organised German side’s defence. Since drawing to Anderlecht, Barcelona have gone on to beat Tottenham Hotspur and Wolfsburg, scoring seven goals without conceding. They managed to slot five past Wolfsburg at the Volkswagen Arena in front of a crowd of nearly 20,000 in one of the team performances of the season.
Three points would put Barcelona a comfortable seven points clear of second placed Tottenham, who have two games in hand. However victory for Anderlecht would see them leap frog both Wolfsburg and Spurs to sit in second position by a point, for the group table click here. Wolfsburg then play Tottenham in London on 24th October.
Kick- off is at 19:30 local time at the Constant Vanden Stock Stadium on Wednesday 10th October, for live updates during the match click here.
